Our History

House of Dance was initially opened under the name of ‘Byron School of Dance’ (BSOD) in 1951. The studio was opened by Val Steward as the first original dance studio in Byron Bay, NSW. After 50 years of successfully owning and managing BSOD, Val Steward decided it was time to sell the business. Ownership of the business was passed on to Cassandra House in 2003.

In 2007 Cassandra set up a corresponding dance studio at Bangalow, NSW and after 7 years of owning and directing both studios recognised a need for business growth and development. Ideas for development were based around a passion for ‘creating opportunities for dancers and business people alike’. In 2009, as a special year of change, in recognition of the past years and in preparation for growth, the name of ‘Byron School of Dance’ became ‘House of Dance’.

Both studios offer classes in tap, jazz, funk, hip hop, contemporary, classical, ballet, contact improvisation, cabaret, musical theatre, and more. Classes are offered to all ages from 2 years and over and are available in levels of beginner to advanced. Whether for a superior dance experience in formal instruction to examination level or a run range of modalities, House of Dance is leader in its field.

House of Dance is unique because it has demonstrated it’s superior quality of teaching for over 50 years in the market and prides itself on a friendly, fun yet professional learning atmosphere. House of Dance promotes success through hard work and an encouraging positive and community spirited environment.
